    :(

I had a customer come into my work today, who had let her son keep a baby beardie that he had found out in the wild.
Keeping the poor thing in a 30x30 tank with only a heat rock.
I tried to explain proper husbandry and stressed the fact its illegal to take them from the wild, but of course the customer always knows best.

it's amazing how ignorant some people are.my son bought a Cunningham skink (40cm) because it was in a 30x30cm tank just to save it from the ignoramus who had it. He didn't really want a Cunningham but wanted to protect it;obviously it is one of the loved now and in a better place but it just blows me away how ignorant/indifferent people can be....it's just a lizard etc.

It’s so hard to keep my mouth shut with customers sometimes. Pets are a privlidge not a right and nothing frustrates me more than people buying animals and then complaining about their care being too difficult or too expensive. It’s not hard to do some quick research into the basics.

Unfortunately people disregard all that I have to say because in young. Apparently qualifications mean nothing

Should have asked if she found a koala would she take it home? Amazing how many people find lost wild turtles and rescue them.

You’d be surprised how many people come in with turtles and Beardies and have no uvb or correct heating. Even before I took on tiger I knew the importance of those things for reptiles.
Basically the kids want it and the parents buy them and then the kids get bored and the parent doesn’t want to look after it. I usually recommend people to go to reptile specific stores because they are going to get the best advice.
We sell everything at my store (apart from the animals), and we are trained in the basics of all the animals we supply for, but unless you get a staff member interested in that species they won’t really know all that much.

Im in the same boat, I work at a petbarn and I'm lucky my manager has similar interests to me and has worked with wildlife and in zoos - she is happy for us to inform customers and refuse a sale for people who we think are breaking the law (e.g. keeping a wild animal). Its a fine line - sell them the products they need and help the animal, or refuse sale and hope they release it...

    I work for Petbarn too
I forever refuse to sell fish if people aren't setting their tanks properly!
