this is the sort of vent most builders use in melamine enclosures, I don't get those shonky little round things ( they are mainly used in allowing air into cupboards)
    These are about 6"x3" 20190504_134156.jpg

I have added three large ventilation holes at each end in the positions suggested by DisturbedDave.

I just need to buy two more covers for inside as I must have dropped two somewhere on the way home

Iíll see how this goes with giving me a greater temp difference the hot and cool ends.

Since you have changed the vent holes you need to block the original holes to keep the airflow working as Dave described. Otherwise holes everywhere will just ruin the plan. If you can pop the caps off you might be able to block them with paper or something.
Also you could have used those metal vents inside and out to save mucking around with round covers.

    Good work.
You should see a difference with this setup.

I can't recall if you are running a thermostat or not, but if you are, you should see the globe staying on for longer, which will assist in maintaining a proper basking temp.

Investing in an infrared temp gun will assist in ensuring the basking temp is correct, it is a good idea to offer a basking ornament which gives multiple vantage points. I've changed my large piece of timber around a little bit, so there are generally 4 different temps depending on where he wants to situate himself (shelf is 39 degrees, peak basking point is 43 degrees and two other points are 37 and 40). I can also manage these temps by changing the wattage of the basking globe.
