Why do snake has forked tongue???

This is me just sharing. Do you know snake actually use his forked tongue to SMELL..???? Yep, and also the forked tongue allows them to sense from which direction the smell came. Interesting right?? Snakes also using their tongue to pick up sense of vibration. Because they dont have ear and ear drum. If you watch a snake carefully, once it senses any vibration, it will start to flick their tongue out of his mouth. Snakes use different tongue flicking motions to collect information.

And also this is the different vision between us and snake!

You are absolutely correct, the forked tongue lets them know which direction the prey is traveling and they use their tongue to smell and taste the air

Thanks! As a kid watching all sorts of cartoons, I always thought snakes just do that randomly. Man I was so wrong hahaha.

When snakes spread the tips of their tongues apart, the distance can be twice as wide as their head. This is important because it allows them to detect chemical gradients in the environment, which gives them a sense of direction – in other words, snakes use their forked tongues to help them smell in three dimensions.
