    Eggs

    Hi all,

Just a question reg. Eggs and gravid females.

Our female mated on the 04/08 and 05/08. (Separate females for each day)

We notice the Females running up and down their cage, they do look much bigger then they use too.. And scratching the walls in the front corner and glass.

So we thought we put a laybox in their enclosures... both immediately started to dig.. no eggs yet but they dig everyday..

What’s the earliest you guys have experience a gravid females to lay her eggs?

    Thanks

Eggs can appear anywhere from 2-4 weeks after mating, they will dig experimental nests over several days. I always fill the box back up and keep it slightly damp and pack it down so it stays firm.
I have also found brickies sand is ideal for the nest box, the play sand I use for substrate doesn't seem to work as well.

Our girl Sierra has laid 33 eggs today for her first clutch!
    All have embryos in them!!!

Sierra is a yellow phase leather back (German giant)
Mason is a orange phase normal (German giant)

We’ve put them in our incubator at 29 degrees. Is that the right temp?

Also with mum we gave her a nice Luke warm bath and some food.
Does she need some heat during the night or is it ok to turn it off?

Also when does the next clutch come in?

WoW 33 ,that's a big first clutch, how heavy was your girl before mating ?
29 is fine, I have mine fluctuating between 28.9-30.1C
Give her plenty of food to build back up and plenty of calcium because the eggs will take all her calcium (even from her bones), try her on pinky mice.
She does not need night heat
Clutches are usually about 2 weeks apart.

I notice you have no holes in the tubs, this is fine but do you know that you have to open the lids weekly for air exchange ?
Some people put holes in the lids but then you run the risk of the vermiculite drying out.
If your vermiculite does dry out a little you can add more water but don't let the eggs get wet, just drip it down the side of the tub.

Whoa 2 weeks apart... we thought it was 3-4 weeks..

Yeh we incubated water dragon eggs last season and we add water to the vermiculite here and there and got 90% success rate.

Otherwise we'll do what you said, open lid weekly for air to come through, how long do we open the lids for?

She was a heavy girl before breeding shes always been big. cant remember weight but we got it in our records somewhere lol

You only need to open for a couple of minutes, what I do is open them in order and then close them again.
Eggs breathe out carbon dioxide and breathe in oxygen so you need to exchange the gases.
My big girl Raptor had 5 clutches in her first season with a total of about 150 eggs with a 99% hatch rate. She is now about 690grams

Our girl laid 33 eggs 2 weeks and half ago.. but she doesn’t seem to look gravid? Well she’s starting to look a “little” fatter but can’t feel as much as we did last time.

Is it always 2 weeks apart or can it be longer?

There is no definite time , but 2 weeks is the usual time frame between clutches
